From October to December, the international science festival Geist Heidelberg<\/a><\/strong> brings together famous scientists, experts, and science communicators to the German-American Institute (DAI: Deutsch-Americanische Institut<\/a>) Heidelberg to present and discuss urgent questions of our time. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This year, the 15th Geist Heidelberg, Elaine Chew <\/strong>and Henkjan Honing <\/strong>will represent topics around the theme of music cognition in two days of lecture and lecture-performances. Henkjan spoke on how we are all musical animals at 8pm on 15 Nov, and Elaine spoke on the importance of music in heart research at 5pm on 16 Nov. <\/p>\n<\/div>

What does music reveal about the human heart? With mathematician and pianist Elaine Chew, music and cardiology come together in an unexpected way: In a lively lecture with live piano playing, Elaine Chew shows how music can help to better understand and possibly treat cardiac arrhythmias.

Elaine Chew<\/strong> is Professor of Engineering at King\u2019s College London and an internationally renowned expert in music cognition and biomedical applications. Her interdisciplinary work combines music, mathematics and medicine. As founder of the Music Theranostics Lab, she combines music information research and cardiology to advance music-based digital therapies and precision diagnostics in cardiovascular medicine.
