Following Elaine’s interview with presenter-conductor Ben Gernon in Archbishop Park, the crew (Director Tom, Emily Baxter-Derrington, Ashraf Uddin) filmed three music engagement scenarios in the Music Theranostics Laboratory with the help of the Cosmos Team (Vanessa Pope, Poulmi Pal, Mateusz Soliński, Wentao Hao) and the Trio (with Hilary Sturt and Ian Pressland).

Hilary Sturt (violin), Ian Pressland (cello), and Elaine Chew (piano) playing the Andante con moto from Schubert’s Trio Op.100 whilst having their physiology projected on screen.

Ben Gernon good naturedly participated in the HeartFM study, whilst listening to a reproduction of Debussy playing Debussy, and also while listening to a live performance of Chopin’s Ballade No. 2

The synchronised music and physiological signals recorded were then inspected for patterns and analysed for what they revealed about the players’ and listeners’ cardiovascular states during their engagement with the music. See https://bit.ly/bbc1-morninglive-musicheart (from 42″)
