Emma Frid recently participated as Project Guide for the Women in Music Information Retrieval Workshop (WiMIR) 2021, an online-only satellite event of ISMIR2021. Emma discussed connections between heart signals and music, drawing examples from previous work on sonification of heartbeats, CosmoNote and Heart.FM. The talk also focused on Accessible Digital Musical Interfaces (ADMIs) and preliminary results from Emma’s research on interfaces enabling haptic representations of music for children with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities.
The WiMIR Workshop featured presentations from Dorien Herremans, Kat Gres, Tian Cheng, Stefania Serafin, Oriol Nieto, Nick Bryan, Lamtharn Hantrakul, Jason Hockman, Jake Drysdale, Olumide Okubadejo, and Cory McKay. The event was organized by Courtney Reed, Kitty Shi, Thor Kell, Jordan B. L. Smith, and Blair Kaneshiro. More information about WiMIR and the WiMIR mentor program can be found here.
