Elaine Chew gives a keynote lecture-performance, “Making Music with/for Heartbeats”, at the BIOTRONIK Electrophysiology Education Program (BeEP) and International Fellows Programme (IFP) Fellows Alumni Event at Jewel Wien on 31 March 2025, during the annual European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) Congress in Vienna, Austria. The lecture-performance featured guess-that-arrhythmia piano music which the audience jumped into with gusto. The HeartFM demo showing real-time visualisations of player-listener ECG-breathing-HRV and Bösendorfer Disklavier piano actions to the strains of Chopin’s Ballade No. 2 in F major, Op. 38.
Elaine is humbled and honored to have the HeartFM demo assisted by Kgomotso Moroka, acting Head of Department in Cardiology at the University of the Free State in South Africa. Dr. Moroka is also a pianist and the first holder of a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Cardiac Arrhythmia Management in Sub-Saharan Africa! Thanks to Katrina Sowak, Senior Manager and Trainer of BIOTRONIK BeEP and organiser of the event, for conceiving of the event for the Vienna congress, and to Bösendorfer for providing the perfectly-in-tune Enspire PRO.
