Cardiology & MIR at Inaugural Tutorial on MIR for health, medicine, and wellbeing at ISMIR Daejeon

Elaine Chew presented ERC COSMOS research on music information retrieval for cardiovascular science with Anja Volk (technologies supporting music therapists) and Michael Casey (MIR for neurology and epilepsy) at the Sunday Tutorial 6 : MIR for health, medicine, and wellbeing at the International Conference of the Society on Music Information Retrieval (ISMIR) hosted by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) on 21-25 September 2025 in Daejeon, Korea. The tutorial drew an attentive crowd of music information researchers.

Anja Volk, Utrecht University : MIR for Music Therapy (e.g. technologies for analyzing musical structures from clinical improvisations; for generating music targeting specific therapeutic functions; for supporting music-based training in between therapy sessions at home)

Elaine Chew, King’s College London : MIR in Music Heart Theranostics (use of music in digital therapeutics and precision diagnostics for cardiovascular health and disease; data and software tools for music and cardiovascular signals)

Michael Casey, Dartmouth College : Neurology and Music Information in Epilepsy Research (e.g. studying music & neurology in clinical settings; joint analysis of iEEG and music features; biomarkers of music processing in iEEG)
