In the structured improvisation, Elaine treated compositions as open scores, recombining fragments from Boulez’s Première Sonate and his Fragments d’une ébauche, and Messiaen’s Vingt Regards: IV. Regard de la Vierge. Gérard guided somax2’s “improvisation” using recordings by jazz saxophonist Steve Lehman, voice singing Stockhausen and Aperghis Pub II including by Valérie Philippin, and Elaine Chew playing Boulez’s Première Sonate. Thierry Miroglio interjects with quotes from Boulez’s Dérives and improvised material.
